About to be 40 in a couple months. Wow time flies by too fukin quick I guess I never had the discipline or nerve to compete even though at one time it was a dream. Hell that's probably 70 to 80% of us though right? I'm actually thinking about it I know I'm no where close to being ready for the stage. But do you all think I can get there???. Or at least do some crazy NDO Champ videos or something lol I'm going to see what my DNA is capable of my brother always told me go for it. As I get quick gains on or off juice and he just couldn't keep up. He was ripped up like Bruce Lee but wanted to bulk. Tried for years just couldn't get past 220 and he was 6'3 like me. I'm right at 288 today and lucky if I get down to 260 off cycle on a diet lol I' really miss you bro continue to RIP!!! Maybe it's just 2024 getting to me. Happy New Year to you all I wish you all the best and hope you fullfil and exceed your goals this year. God Bless You All!

Good luck with everything and follow your heart but while doing so use your head and be careful. You are naturally thick. I can understand you wanting to bodybuild at an older age. Personally I compete as a raw powerlifter but even I have thought about competing in classic bodybuilding. At the end of the day it's about following your dreams and not regretting anything unlike alot of guys that think this or that, yet have never followed their hearts or even competed in competition. Could of, would of, should of...That's what they all say. Good luck man.

I would use the fact you have some massive natural genetics and get into the strength game, set your sights on some big numbers to hit and go out and get em. I am a little older than you and we are not at the stage in life now where you want to be having to hammer anabolics and diuretics to win bodybuilding shows that are heavily detrimental to your health. Enjoy your training and having your health, happiness is what its all ultimately about.

16-20 wk cut and you will be there. Go for it.

Rosschestzip's picture

You look great but with competing the problem your gunna have is, you don’t have the little waist for mens physique or classic physique and your 6”3 so you’d have to do open bodybuilding and for that you’d have to pack on more size. But idk what you’d look like if you got super lean maybe you do have a little waist naturally , so either you gotta get bigger or smaller lol. I’d try going on a cut and seeing what you shape up like, you’d probably look killer but competing is almost always harder for the super tall guys

He will be able to compete in the master's division due to his age and amateur division since it would be his first show. Open is for the young bucks Lol

Rosschestzip's picture

Ya but isn’t it masters bodybuilding and masters physique and masters classic? Or is it just masters? I figured due to his age he would be in masters but I thought it was still broken down into the divisions and weight and stuff. But for sure if he just cuts down he’d probably look great and he’s got alot of size so just sculpt it up!!

I'm all for classic bodybuilding and not so much physique lol. I prefer 70's look as opposed to today's blocky look.

Rosschestzip's picture

Ya I agree but I like the freaks too, there’s just no freak today that I care for. Not saying there won’t be but right now, the best physique to me is Chris bumstead, but normally I like guys like Dorian and jay. Like I would rather look like Dorian then Arnold but like nick walker just doesn’t do it for me, ya he’s huge and a freak, which I usually like but for some reason it just doesn’t look good

Yea I liked the big guys back in Dorian's era no doubt, to me that was probably the best era in bodybuilding as far as competition. The 70's era guys had only a few top dogs but I just loved the way they did things. They worked hard and just simplified things. Also regardless what anyone says, most of those guys did not use heavy dosages of gear, not at all, and they looked good. And to me that is believable because their stories add up a little too much lol. Now did some use a little more gear...yeah. And yea pro bodybuilders today are not the same in my opinion. Bigger yes but not necessarily better.

Rosschestzip's picture

Ya I don’t think anyone today is better. But I do think people are too hard on these guys. If your a top guy today your probably worked just as hard as those guys back then. You can’t be a pro and be slacking. I think the attitude is different now and they may be relying on drugs more but these guys are still in the gum everyday year after year and dieting hard and weigh there food and getting sleep. I mean these guys aren’t turning pro just because there slamming more GH. I think the top guys would be too guys in any era but as a WHOLE the industry may be lazier now and less hardcore and more drug focused for sure

What's funny to me is how some guys swear that most of those old school bodybuilders used as much gear as they use today. I think that is an excuse honestly. Reality is reality ya know? Most of those old school guys didn't have Arnold's genetics but they still looked good using lower dosages and alot of guys today just can't seem to understand that lol. I wish I was in that era training with those guys. They would of taught me alot.

DeeMan's picture

Right but when you rely more on drugs to get you to that next level are you actually working harder? I'm just saying. Yea of course most probably work hard but again, they rely on more gear and some look horrible, lol it is what it is man. The thing that bothers me is younger guys being influenced by these guys and having that more is better mentality. No its not simply because more sides come into play. Also there seems to be a point of diminishing returns for many.

Rosschestzip's picture

I get what your saying but the drugs cant make a pro. I could be wrong but I think the hardest working guys today are the top guys, same for any era and I think no matter what era it is you need to be the hardest working to be the top. The drugs aren’t gunna do it. And with or without the drugs there still working just has hard. I don’t think they see the drugs as a way to take it easy but as a way to get ahead while still working just as hard. Idk but that’s just my mentality, Even if I had magic drugs, I’d still work my ass off because then I’d just be that much better.

Hope you can understand my point. More than hard work. If it were just hard work there would be alot more Mr.Olympias.

Rosschestzip's picture

Oh for sure. I thinks it’s probably 50% genetics 30% hard work and 20% drugs. But you can’t make it without the drugs but since everyone basically has access to the same drugs and is probably doing basically the same stuff I’d say that kinda evens the playing field a little

In a promo × 1
DeeMan's picture

I agree to that percentage. I agree all have access to drugs. Just not sure if all are using the same amounts of those drugs. It's kinda strange because a person could use a ton of gear and not look like they actually use a ton of gear, as opposed to the next guy who you would swear is juiced to the max but in reality the dude is or could be using way less lol. That's why it's so damn hard to assume. But I get it, we see someone big and automatically assume alot of juice. Lol that's just reality

DeeMan's picture

Top bodybuilders aren't top bodybuilders simply because of hard work as there are a few factors that go into that, genetics being a factor. It all goes together. Now hard work is a big factor in it.

DeeMan's picture

Well I can't say that drugs aren't a factor in becoming a pro because it simply is. No way around that. Like I said alot of guys today train hard but also alot of those guys are using more drugs thinking they will get to next level, that's the reality of it unfortunately. Yes top guys work hard in any era but amount of drugs taken cannot be ignored. But yea drugs don't make a professional bodybuilder but drugs are definitely a factor.

Makwa's picture

Physique and classic, what are those Lol There is only one division - bodybuilding.
The corresponding height/weight cutoffs still need to be met for physique/classic whether in masters or not (along with the corresponding age requirement). Masters bodybuilding is just restricted by age. There are no weight cutoffs.
